Das Volk der Aymara glaubt, dass die Zukunft, unsichtbar und unbekannt, uns von hinten einholt, während die Vergangenheit stets vor uns liegt. Dieses Zeitverständnis scheint sich mit zunehmendem Alter zu verdichten, da die Horizonte von Vergangenheit und Zukunft immer enger werden. Ausgehend vom Leidensweg seines Vaters erkundet Disequilibrium die Natur des Erinnerns, die Unerbittlichkeit von Demenz und Senilität, den Preis (erzwungener) Migration sowie die eigene Verbindung zum Land. Es konfrontiert marginalisierende Systeme, konzentriert sich auf die Ausgegrenzten – deren Erwartungen und Hoffnungen von einer Gesellschaft zunichtegemacht werden, die sie kaum anerkennt. Die Werke zeigen, wie vergangene Ereignisse auch heute noch Leben prägen, und fordern uns auf, die Grenzen von Zeit, Ort und zwischen Menschen zu überwinden.

The Aymara people believe that the future, unseen and unknown, emerges from behind, while the past lies in front of us. This sense of time seems to tighten as we age, with the horizons of both past and future narrowing. Through the lens of his father’s illness and suffering, Disequilibrium explores the nature of memory, the cruelty of dementia and senility, the toll of (forced) migration, and one’s connection to the land. It confronts systems that marginalise, focusing on those systematically excluded – whose expectations and hopes are crushed by a society that scarcely acknowledges them. The artworks reveal how past events continue to shape present lives, urging us to transcend boundaries of time, place, and between people.

 
Artist Statement
«My artistic practice explores themes of historical memory and collective identity through installations, sculptures and performances. I work often with sparsely but precisely arranged fragments that already contain memories and meaning but gain new ones by being placed in a present context. The experience of living in and between two cultures represents a central part of my family history. I use this circumstance as an entry point to address broader topics such as shifting political systems, migration and the relationship between generations. Issues that are relevant to all identities, influence each other and transcend territorial boundaries.»
