Kadal Ondru kann als «Sea One» oder ein Meer übersetzt werden. Ein*e Dichter*in steht an dem Punkt, wo sich drei Meere im angestammten Bezirk Kanyakumari treffen. Sangamam. Dichter*in spricht in drei Sprachen: Tamil, Englisch und Deutsch. Wie Meere, die Grenzen auslöschen und Asche auflösen, mischt Dichter*in diese Sprachen, um über die groben Ränder der verschlungenen Geschichte zu reflektieren, an deren Rändern wie Schaum Völkermorde, Exilant*innen, Kastengewalt und koloniale Wunden geschrieben stehen. Rhythmus und Gezeiten leiten das Gedicht. Dichter*in wird zu einer Freund*in, die in die eigene Geschichte ein- und aussteigt, zu einer Liebhaber*in einer Muttersprache, die mehr verbirgt als sie erzählt.

Kadal Ondru can be translated as “Sea One” or one sea. A poet stands at the point where three seas meet in their ancestral district Kanyakumari. Sangamam. Poet speaks in three languages: Tamil, English and German. Like seas that erase borders and dissolve ashes, poet mixes these languages to reflect on the crude edges of swallowing histories, in whose margins like froth are written genocides, exiles, caste violences and colonial wounds. Rhythm and tide lead the poem. Poet becomes a friend who steps in and out of their own history, a lover of a mother-tongue that hides more than it tells.
 

Avrina Prabala-Joslin
அவ்ரீனா பிரபலா-ஜாஸ்லின் / avrina prabala-joslin (1992, Tamil Nadu) or (avrina and the invisible ones) are many poets, spirits and voices sharing one body. They write places, beings and times. Obsessed with memories that pervade and evade, often of childhood, avrina’s writing is an ebb and flow characteristic of their desire for the sea. avrina’s short story She’s a Tank, a Battalion, a Banyan won the Short Fiction / University of Essex International Short Story Prize 2021 judged by writer Irenosen Okojie and works have been nominated for the Indiana Review Fiction Prize, Radical Art Review Contest, the Berlin Writing Prize and the Desperate Literature Short Fiction Prize etc. An alumna of the MA Writing program at the University of Warwick and MA English Philology at University of Göttingen, avrina is an independent researcher working with memory politics and participatory poetic practises. Their research on feminist media and literary practises won them the Niedersachsen Wissenschaftspreis 2019 and the Gender Thesis Prize 2020 by the Göttingen Center for Gender Studies. Years of poetic and academic experience have enabled avrina to create a devoted bardic practise keen on bringing poetic narratives to collective spaces through readings in collaboration with fellow poets, and through literary practises such as their work as Senior Editor for international journal128Lit. avrina has read at/for Bangalore Literature Festival, Mathrubhumi International Festival of Letters Kerala, Prosanova Hildesheim, Academy of Arts Berlin (AdK), the LCB, Poesie Festival Berlin, Lovecrumbs Edinburgh, etc. apart from being published in Sinn und Form, The Bombay Literary Magazine, Stoff aus Luft, Kaalachuvadu etc.
